Parent-Teacher Conferences
I sent the following information in an email earlier this week. In case you didn’t see it I have included it here: Hello families! It is already time to sign-up for Parent/Teacher Conferences. For our Fall Conferences, I would like everyone to pick a time to meet. I have included a spreadsheet below with the times I am available to meet. Just type your child's name into a yellow box next to a time that best works for your schedule. Please let me know if none of the times listed work and we will find a time to meet! I look forward to meeting with each one of you! https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1m2V4k_tJKqTYKxKhcZGV6duFGCLG_QtLwgufNb4Ruk4/edit?usp=sharing Math Papers Thanks to all of you, our math papers are officially ALL DONE!! I appreciate the people who helped Kindergarten out in this BIG way! Fall Party On October 19th, at 11:30 AM, we will have our Fall Party! Our wonderful homeroom mom, Jessica, has created this list to help sign-up for some needs to make that day a success and extra fun for the students! http://www.signupgenius.com/go/5080448A8AB2AA1FE3-fall Donation If you are able to, I am in need of 18 small pumpkins and 1 large pumpkin. If you are able to donate either of these items, I would love for you to email me and let me know! We plan to carve the large pumpkin together here at school and create a small “pumpkin patch” with the small ones. If you have any questions, I am more than happy to answer, just let me know! Sight Words This week we started to learn sight words at school. Sight words appear frequently in text students read, but can't easily be sounded out. Learning them helps children become more confident readers. This list of kindergarten sight words includes the most commonly used words every student should know, also called high frequency words. We will be learning 2 new words each week. The following is a list of the words through the month of December. On Mondays, your student will write down their 2 new sight words for the week. This will be written on a blue piece of paper. If you will work on the two words at home, it will help practice what we are learning in class. We will have informal “spelling tests” on Fridays. These are not for a grade, just a quick check to see who needs more help learning the words. Our Leader In Me night will be tonight from 6:30-7:30 PM. There will be activities to complete and a job fair in the gym. Hope to see you there! Tiger Pride Our first Tiger Pride Assembly is tomorrow, September 28 at 2:30 p.m. Families are welcome to attend. There are chairs set up for parents in the cafeteria, and students will sit with the class. Our assemblies usually last until 3:15. If you choose to come, you are welcome to take your child with you after the assembly. Taking them after the assembly does not count against attendance. If you are taking your child home from the assembly, students will walk back to the music room with Mrs. Kuchta (they are in music class when the assembly begins) and you can let Mrs. Kuchta know you are taking them home. The class takes their backpacks with them to music on assembly days, so you will not need to walk down to our classroom for their things. Please email me or send a note to let me know you are taking your child with you so that I know where they are as well. Let me know if you have questions! Rest Time This week was our last week of rest time. I will send home mats and towels and they do not need to come back to school. Apples We will be begin our Apple Unit next week. We will be doing all kinds of fun activities with apples! If you could send in one apple for your student sometime next week, we would have enough apples to taste test and make apple butter. If you would like to send in more than one, that would be great too! We will need red, green and yellow. Thank you for your help! Pledge In case you missed our class saying the pledge this morning on 105.1 The Bull, here is a link to their website, and our class recording of the Pledge of Allegiance. https://www.thebull1051.com/episode/mrs-greer-kindergarten-from-willard-east/ Snack Next Week Monday- Logan Tuesday- Molly Wednesday- Sawyer Thursday- Caleb Friday- Ms. Greer Upcoming Events September 27- Leader In Me Night @6:30-7:30 PM September 28- First Tiger Pride @2:30 PM Leader In Me Family Night
Our Leader In Me night will be next Thursday, September 27th from 6:30-7:30 PM. There will be activities to complete and a job fair in the cafeteria. Please mark your calendars to come and learn more about what Leader In Me is all about! Tiger Pride Our first Tiger Pride Assembly is next Friday, September 28 at 2:30 p.m. Families are welcome to attend. There are chairs set up for parents in the cafeteria, and students will sit with the class. Our assemblies usually last until 3:15. Rest Time Next week will be the last week of rest time. I will send home mats and towels next Friday and they do not need to come back to school. This will be a very hard adjustment for some of them. They are used to getting that solid 30 minutes of sleep everyday. It may be a good idea to bump up their bedtime until they fully adjust to having a full day of school with no rest. If you have any questions about this, please let me know. Radio The Bull radio station came in and recorded our class saying the pledge of allegiance! I sent a note home earlier this week but in case you missed it, our class saying the pledge will be on Bull 105.1 at 7:00 AM on September 27th. Snack Next Week Monday- Logan Tuesday- Luke Wednesday- Noah Thursday- Bentley Friday- Riley Upcoming Events September 27- Leader In Me Night @6:30-7:30 PM September 28- First Tiger Pride @2:30 PM Homecoming Parade/Half Day
As most of you have heard, on Friday, September 21st, the Willard Community will come together to celebrate Homecoming. Our school will be watching the Homecoming Parade that day at 10:00 AM. Due to the festivities that day, that Friday will also only be a half day which means we will dismiss at 12:30 PM not 3:30 PM. Spirit Week Next week, our school has been asked to participate in Homecoming Spirit Days! These will be fun days where your child may dress up. This is not required, just something to do as a fun preparation for Homecoming! The themes for each day are: Monday - 'Merica Monday Tuesday - Tie-Dye Tuesday Wednesday - Onesie Wednesday (PJ Day) Thursday - Tacky Tourist Thursday Friday - Willard Pride School Shirts Community Helpers I sent home a note earlier this week about Community Helpers. We are looking for volunteers to come into our class and share about their job and how it helps the community. If you would be willing to come in and speak to all of Kindergarten, please contact your child’s teacher as soon as possible! We look forward to hearing from you and always appreciate your willingness to help! It was a short week, packed with learning! This week we started Read to Self. Read to Self is a designated time we will spend each day reading books on our own in the classroom. We talked about three ways to read a book. We learned we can read the pictures, read the words, and retell the story after we have finished reading it. We also finished talking about our first habit in Leader in Me. A paper should have come home earlier this week telling you a little more about all 7 habits. Our first habit is Be Proactive. Be sure to ask your student what this means for them here at school and at home! Colors We will be learning about colors next week in Kindergarten! On Monday, Sept. 10, please have your child wear the color red to school. Look for more notes like these to remind you what color your child should wear the rest of the week. I will also list them on here! Snack Next Week Monday(Red)- Caleb Tuesday(Orange)- Chloe Wednesday(Yellow)- Sophia Thursday(Green)- Blake Friday(Blue)- Kyanna Upcoming Events September 21- Half Day September 27- Leader In Me Night @6:30-7:30 PM September 28- First Tiger Pride @2:30 PM What Have We Been Up To In Class
This second week has flown by! We continued our alphabet this week learning what each letter looks like, sounds like, and talked about what words begin with that letter. This week we have talked about F through I. We have also been working on our numbers in math by talking about the numbers 1 through 8. We have been practicing writing the number, counting it, drawing that amount of items. The other big thing we have been working on is making those green choices! They are loving talking about what they are doing right and being able to choose how their day will go. Thanks for your support at home for their behavior here at school! Behavior Charts The weekly behavior charts should have come home in your child’s folder everyday this week. Once you look at it, please place it back inside their folder for the next day. We use the same chart all week long. Once the week has ended, you are more than welcome to take that week’s chart out of their folder. Math We will be starting our math curriculum next week! When the math papers come home, you may see homework attached. You do not have to complete this, and if you choose to, you do not have to send it back to me. It is up to you! Let me know any questions you have with that! Labor Day Weekend Reminder, there will be no school this Friday, August 31st, and also no school next Monday, September 3rd. Enjoy your Labor Day weekend! Snack Next Week Monday- No School Tuesday- Riley Wednesday- Molly Thursday- Emmalyn Friday- Sawyer Upcoming Events August 31- No School September 3- No School We have had a great first week in Kindergarten!
Parent Volunteers I sent home alphabet books to fold and staple earlier this week. If you signed up on your volunteer form to have things sent home, make sure to look in your child’s backpack. These will need to be done as quickly as possible and just sent back when completed. Thank you so much for being willing to help! It is a HUGE help to me! Rest Time Blankets If you sent a blanket or towel for rest time, I will be sending those home on Fridays to wash. Please send them back on the following Monday so they will have something the next week to lay on. Behavior Next week we will be beginning our behavior charts! I sent home a detailed note today in their folders so you have a better idea of what to expect. Be on the lookout for those today, and the charts to be in their folders everyday next week. P.E. Day We have P.E. every Wednesday and Extra P.E. on every other Tuesday. I would suggest having your child wear tennis shoes on both of these days. Snack Next Week Monday- Matthew Tuesday- Luke Wednesday- Bentley Thursday- Noah Friday- NO SCHOOL Upcoming Events August 31- No School September 3- No School We have had an absolute blast getting to know one another these last two days! Thank you for sharing your children with me this year!
Hopefully once a week I will be updating the blog with upcoming dates and relevant information. It just helps me to have one place with all the information I need to get to you! Remind Remind is a wonderful app that I can use to send little reminders home to you. Please don’t forget to sign up! My Remind is separate from Principal Miller’s, so you will need to sign up for both. Contact me with any further questions on that! Going Home Tags You have probably noticed your child coming home with a necklace marking how they get home-either a car, pawprint, or bus. These are very important the first few weeks of school for our little ones. We need to be able to quickly identify where they are supposed to be to get them home safely. If you would, please send those back everyday. If not, I am trying to remake them and get them new ones and it becomes quite a mess at the end of our day. Thank you in advance for your help in this! Folders I have started to send each child home with an orange take home folder. This folder will be sent home every night with information in it. It would be a good practice to check this, and place it back in their backpack every night. In the morning they will get their folder out, so this would be a great place to send in notes, forms, lunch money, etc. Eventually, this will be where their behavior is marked. More on that later! Snack On Friday, in the orange take home folder, I placed a snack calendar for the month of August. Only 9 students got this month’s calendar because we only have that many days left. For snack, your child can bring their item on that day to share with the class. I have 17 students, so please provide at least that amount of whatever you bring. Good snack items would be things like goldfish, pretzels, bananas, crackers, cheeze-its, etc. Everything must be store bought/pre-packaged and nothing can be homemade for safety reasons. I myself have a severe allergy to all kinds of nuts so if you send anything containing them, they will not be able to be passed out. On your child’s birthday, they are allowed to bring a special snack. That is up to you and them to decide. Please bring things that are easily distributed to a large amount of students. Things that usually work well are cupcakes, or cookies. Let me know if you ever have any clarifying questions about snack! I am here to help! Snack Next Week Monday- Kyanna Tuesday- Addy Wednesday- Vincenzo Thursday- Mark Friday- Emmalyn Hello there! I cannot believe it is already time to start a new school year! I have been busily preparing our classroom and working to ensure we will have a successful start to what is sure to be a great year! I cannot wait to meet each and every one of you and your students. Happy New School Year to us!
